FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLIFFSIDE PARK, NJ – April 29, 2026 — The Ramos Research Institute (RRI) Executive Director Alejandro Ramos and Chief of Staff Josephine Hall traveled to Kosovo last month to strengthen ties with partners at the University of Prishtina (UP) and the Faculty of Philology. During their trip, Ramos and Hall met with scholars, journalists, and military leaders from across Kosovo, engaging in conversations about democracy, media, and public discourse.
RRI and UP have partnered together to create opportunities for young scholars interested in promoting democracy to gain an international perspective. Next year, Ramos hopes to co-teach as part of the Prishtina International Summer University, and RRI will be inviting UP students to join our remote research internship program.
While in Kosovo, Ramos and Hall were guided by Dr. Remzie Shahini-Hoxhaj, a member of the RRI Scholar’s Council and Vice Dean at the Faculty of Philology.
During the trip, Ramos met with students from UP’s political science program. They discussed issues students feel affect society, and spoke about what role students can play in promoting democracy. Ramos was also invited to deliver a lecture on media ethics in high profile cases.
“It was an honor and a privilege spending a week at the University of Prishtina. I enjoyed engaging with the students and professors,” shared Director Ramos. “I look forward to the prospects of returning to Kosovo to once again engage with its brilliant students and world class faculty [and] researchers.”
During this week RRI interns had the opportunity to attend a virtual lecture by Dr. Shahini-Hoxhaj. Shahini-Hoxhaj shared her research on Kosovo’s evolving media landscape and the evolving role of women in journalism.
In addition to meeting with Kosovo’s leading scholars, Ramos and Hall met with members of Kosovo Force, a NATO-led international peacekeeping taskforce. Members of the organization spoke to Ramos and Hall about the Office of the Gender Advisor, which focuses on promoting gender equality in NATO operations.
The Ramos Research Institute team is grateful to have met with scholars and officials working to strengthen democracy, youth engagement, and journalistic integrity. The Institute looks forward to cultivating relationships with more international partners in the future as we work to promote and strengthen democracy.
